Daniel Fast 2009

Join us in a 21-day "Daniel Fast" (no meats or sweets) as we seek God for direction and power in the New Year.

What is Fasting?

Generally, fasting is giving up food for a spiritual reason.  The term "fasting" is sometimes applied to giving up other things as well. (For example,  fasting from TV, soda, texting...)

Why Fast and Pray?

Jesus tells us to fast and pray.  It's being obedient and a way to earnestly seek God.  There seems to be an expectation from Jesus that His followers will fast and that fasting and prayer release God's power and help in exceptional ways.

Why a Daniel Fast?

It's kind of like a fast for beginners.  You don't have to stop eating completely.  At Harvest we are giving up "meats and sweets" for 21 days as we pray.

Where Can I Learn More About Fasting?

Here are just a few scriptures related to fasting.  You might want to look up "fasting" in the concordance of your Bible and read about different people fasting during our 21 days:

Daniel 10:2-13
Zechariah 7:4-10
Acts 13:2-3
Acts 14:23
Matthew 6:16-18

How Can I Get the Most out of this Experience?

Don't look at this as a "weight loss plan."  When you feel the cravings for meats and sweets, that is a reminder to pray and seek God. It reminds us of why we are doing this.

So, Why Are We Doing This?

I believe God wants to do great things in the world and He is looking for people to use.  I want to be one of those people and I want us to be well.  We are fasting to seek God.  To let Him know that we are serious about serving Him and that we look to Him for strength and direction for our families, our jobs, and the mission He has for us while we are here on Earth.

Blessings,
Pastor Jim
